What the treatment involves

Composite bonding changes the shape of a tooth by adding tooth-coloured composite to it. It closes small gaps, rebuilds a chipped corner, evens out worn edges and lengthens a tooth that looks short. Nothing is drilled away.

We start by matching the shade with you. If you are also thinking about whitening, we usually whiten first, because composite does not change colour afterwards and we want it to match the new shade.

The composite goes on in thin layers and is shaped by hand, then set with a blue light and polished until it catches the light like enamel. A single tooth takes about forty-five minutes, and you see the result before you leave.

Dr Craddock does most of our bonding and will usually talk you out of veneers. Bonding keeps your natural tooth, it can be reversed, and when it wears it can be repaired in one short visit.

Bonding costs £190 per tooth. Plan members get 15% off and a free polish of any bonding at each check-up.

“Dr Craddock talked me out of veneers and into two bits of bonding. It cost a fraction and nobody can tell which teeth.”

Common questions

Is bonding better than veneers?

For most small changes, yes. Bonding keeps your natural tooth and can be reversed or redone. Veneers need enamel removed, and that cannot be undone.

How long does bonding last?

Five to seven years before it usually needs a polish or a repair. Avoid biting pens and opening packets with your teeth.
