What the treatment involves

A check-up at Northlight is twenty minutes with a dentist who is not in a hurry. We ask what has changed, look at every tooth and the gums around it, check your jaw and the soft tissue of your mouth, and take X-rays only when they are due — usually every two years.

Everything we see goes on the screen beside the chair. If there is something to watch, you will see it and hear what it means in plain words. If there is something to treat, it goes on a written, itemised quote that you take home. You never find out the price of a filling after it has been done.

The hygiene visit is separate and done by Rosalind or Theo, our hygienists. They remove the hard deposits a toothbrush cannot reach, polish, and show you — once, briefly — the one spot you keep missing. Gums that bleed are common and nothing to be embarrassed about; we see them every day and they usually settle within a few weeks.

Both check-ups and two hygiene visits a year are included on the Northlight Plan for £19.50 a month.

Included in the price

  • A full exam of teeth, gums, jaw and soft tissue
  • Digital X-rays when they are due, shown on the screen as we look
  • A scale and polish that takes as long as it needs
  • A written note of anything to watch, with prices
“I had not seen a dentist in nine years and was genuinely scared. Nobody asked why. I left with a plan, a price and a date, and I laughed in the lift.”
Priya M. · Patient since 2024

From first visit to finished

  1. Ask and look

Five minutes of what has changed for you, then a full look around, tooth by tooth.

  2. Clean

The hygienist removes the hard deposits your brush cannot, then polishes. Numbing gel on request.

  3. Explain

You see the X-ray and the photographs. We point at what we are looking at and say what it means.

  4. Plan

Anything that needs doing goes on a written quote. Nothing starts without your yes.

Common questions

How often should I have a check-up?

Most adults every six months. If your gums are healthy and nothing has changed in two years we may suggest nine or twelve months, and we will say so rather than book you in out of habit.

Does a hygiene visit hurt?

It can feel scratchy where gums are inflamed. Tell us and we use a numbing gel or a local anaesthetic; there is no extra charge for either.
